Back in Action… with flare!
by DarenDoc on Jan.26, 2010, under Movie Design, Star Trek
Been super busy over the last couple months, you know… just taking care of things and trying to stay busy work-wise… but just thought I’d break the silence with a little clip I did while playing around with a great new plugin from videocopilot.net called Optical Flares… it’s great, and really updates the kinda stuff you can do…
So I thought I would take one of my shots that I did for Star Trek New Voyages and “futurized” it more in keeping with the Abrams movie that so many of the kids like these days…
Oh… maybe that was a bit over done…

No..not overdone, but definitely accurate to the JJ style of film making. I do hope they go back to the “Old” style for the next abominat—-er, um, adventure.

Still waiting for your review of the J.J. film by the by.

Hmm. Yes, yes. But the lens flare accounts for only a third of what needs to be done. Don’t forget, JJ is going for a documentary feel for Star Trek, so be sure to add as much camera shakes and zoom effects as possible.

Nice, Daren. How much longer did it take to render with the flares?

It does add a lot to the realism I must say.

I am so sick of the JJ Lens Flare…it gave me a frakking headache with that movie and served no purpose but to hide mistakes.
I think you made your point, and I laughed because even with the ‘lens flare’ I still like your work better.
